You've built personalised landing pages. Traffic from a "running shoes" ad lands on a running shoes page. Traffic from a "trail running" creative lands on a trail-specific variant. CVR on personalised destinations is up. You scale the campaign.
Six weeks later, your Meta attribution data is a mess. Campaign optimisation has degraded. ROAS looks worse even though revenue is flat.
You didn't break the conversion experience. You broke the tracking.
Why dynamic pages corrupt your data
Personalisation via URL parameters works in two phases. First, the HTML loads and client-side scripts fire - including your Meta Pixel and GA4 tags. Then, JavaScript reads the URL parameters and renders the personalised content.
Your pixel fires in phase one. Before the page knows what it's showing. The purchase event sent to Meta contains the URL and the timestamp - not the product variant or the audience segment. Attribution data is incomplete. Meta's algorithm trains on degraded signals and over time optimises toward the wrong audiences and creatives.
This is a slow failure mode. Events fire, conversions record, everything looks fine in the dashboard. The damage shows up in ROAS trajectory and lookalike audience quality after 60–90 days. By the time you diagnose it, you've wasted months of optimisation signal.
The fix: CAPI as the source of truth
The Conversions API (CAPI) sends purchase events from your server to Meta after the transaction completes - with complete, accurate data attached. It doesn't depend on browser render sequence. It doesn't get blocked by iOS 14+ restrictions or ad blockers. The data is clean.
The correct setup is CAPI in parallel with the client-side pixel, not as a replacement. The browser pixel handles upper-funnel events - page views, add-to-carts - where server-side latency is a limitation. CAPI handles purchase events where accuracy is non-negotiable. Meta deduplicates automatically when you include a consistent event_id in both. The browser event and the CAPI event reference the same transaction ID. Meta counts them as one.
What to verify before scaling
Deduplication first. Open Events Manager and look at purchase event volume. If you're seeing 2x expected volume, your event_id values aren't matching between the pixel and CAPI. Fix this before scaling - duplicate purchase events corrupt campaign data as badly as missing ones.
Render timing audit. Use Meta Pixel Helper to verify that purchase events fire with complete product data. If the product field is empty on a personalised page, the pixel is firing in phase one before parameter rendering completes.
GA4 parity. GA4 doesn't have a native CAPI equivalent, but the Measurement Protocol covers server-side purchase events. If GA4 is your LTV and cohort source, run the same parallel setup - especially for attribution window analysis.
Clean tracking is not glamorous work. It's the foundation that determines whether your campaign data is worth trusting. Set it up before you scale personalisation - not as a cleanup task after the fact.
